Although the playtime was relatively short (around 3 hours for me) I found this game very enjoyable. I really liked the cutscenes and elements of suspense along the way as well as the stories of each character. The art direction was also spot on and really helped the story shine. 10/10
As someone who enjoys narrative-driven games and struggles with platformers, this was very enjoyable! The game didn't punish me for dying (and I died a LOT), which encouraged me to keep going. The visuals are beautiful! I enjoyed finding as many of the collectibles as I could (I found 50/85).
I loved watching the tragic story of this family unfold through small hints throughout the game, and I appreciated the more explicit explanation for it all at the end.
Overall a great experience. Perfect for a single sitting :)
TLDR: great game, but your mileage may very depending on how you play games and if the gameplay is enough to hook you. For me, even if it's a relatively short game, the balance between gameplay and plot is off since the gameplay isn't interesting enough to fill the gaps between the narrator bits. Even so, don't worry about trying it out, it has great qualities.
Edit: having now read a summary of the story, I can say it's powerful and very emotional.
Now on my second session, and I can definitely see how this game is meant to be played in 1 sitting: it's very hard to keep track of and absorb the story if you don't. The problem is that while the voice acting is excellent, the sound and visuals give off an amazing vibe, and the plot is cool, the gameplay just isn't engaging enough for me to want to sit down for 3-5 hours. That's already not how I like to play games tho, so it's not completely fair of me, but still. If the story was kept as is but the game made shorter I think I would've liked it more. The story is interesting and I think only works the way it's written now and told in the narrator-style the game does it in, so keeping the game as is but changing the plot/the way it's told wouldn't work. That being said, to reiterate: the voice acting, sound, visuals, and story (isolated from game length) are very well done.
I stumbled upon this game in a bundle, wanted to play it, realized I hadn't actually bought that bundle, and then decided to buy it outright after hyping myself up to play. I'm a bit let down, though, in large part because I'm currently stuck--I'm in Knight-time and am hacking and slashing at multiple enemies before being able to go downwards, and some of the gooey black bats are disappearing away from where I can hit them, preventing me from progressing :(
the whole time i was confused but the ending made me sob, somehow i missed the part where it was an emotional story and just thought it was a platformer puzzle game. Incredible story and artstyle. I noticed a few bugs here and there visually with the keeper and some doors. At one point the story didn't progress and i had to reload it but that was fine. Loved the game!
